To Krabi by Air:
:: from Bangkok ...daily flights to and from Bangkok with Thai Airways | Bangkok Airways | AirAsia (There are a few other choices, but these are the recommeded)
:: from Kuala Lumpur ...daily flights to and from Kuala Lumpur with AirAsia
:: from Singapore ...the on again, off again daily flights to and from Singapore with Tiger Airways are on again (Nov 2009)
The Krabi airport is 15km from the town... taxi or mini-bus to Krabi Town... or you can hike out to the main road (500-700m) and catch a songtaew (local bus about every 45 minutes maybe?) for 30 baht.
To Krabi by Bus or Train/Bus:
:: Bangkok to Krabi by overnight aircon VIP bus ...12 hour trip, leaves Bangkok at 6 p.m. daily. When we travel by over-night bus we ONLY take the "Government VIP 24 seat". (First class buses with seats like 1st class on the airlines with lots of leg room.) We purchase our tickets ONLY at the southern bus terminal, don't be fooled by the Khaosan agents who say theirs is the same. THEY ARE NOT
:: Bangkok to Krabi by over night train ...You can't really go by train to Krabi. You have 2 choices. In either case, take something to eat, the train food is pricy and NOT a favorite. There are many food vendors around the station that will prepare a box lunch for take away.
As of Feb 2009 there is a new online service to buy train tickets... www.thairailwayticket.com
- ...take the train to Surat Thani then bus to Krabi... either A/C or fan 2nd class sleeper or 1st class A/C cabin sleeper... the later is about half the price of airfare but so comfortable and private. All these classes have up-down berths with fresh white linens made up by the porter at your request. The 12 hour trip to Surat Thani leaves around 6-8 pm daily. From here you only have one choice to Krabi. The touts will sell you big aircon or mini bus tickets - 3-4 hours. (agents in Bangkok will sell a combo train-bus all in one for about the same $)
- ...take the train all the way to Trang, (this is my personal favorite... the train arrives at a leisurely 9 am right in the downtown... Trang is not a tourist city and has a great Chinese ambiance... also the convenience of the train station right downtown is great) then it's only a 2 hour taxi/bus ride to Krabi.
:: Penang, Malaysia to Krabi by aircon mini-bus ...Toyota/Izuzu/Nissan vans that seat ten fairly comfortably, but they always sell 11 plus driver. (you can buy 3 seats for more room). They leave at 6 am, go to Hat Yai in Thailand, there you wait an hour then into another van to Krabi , arriving about 3 or 4PM so you'll have to stay in Krabi one night. (City Hotel or KR Mansion are Mid to Budget places to over night in.)
